Squished Face

Okay, there was one more thing I wanted to write about. Last night I stumbled on to a show called "WIPEOUT". It's a knock off of a japanese show where people run through the craziest obstacle courses. ABC decided it would be just as funny with Americans... and IT WAS! Jason wasn't home when it started, so I recorded it so he could see it. Do you ever feel dumb laughing out loud when you're by yourself. Sometimes I do, but not this time. I was laughing so hard by the time Jason came home, I was just about crying. As I was rewinding the show to the funniest parts for Jason, I couldn't stop laughing. He kept looking at me and asking if I was going to cry. And I did. Do you ever laugh so hard that you get a squished face? It's the strangest thing, I will laugh so hard that my facial muscles get stuck in this weird squished face, and that's usually when I start to cry from laughing. Anyways, if you haven't seen it yet... I highly recommend it. This is Jason now. I had to take over because Mandy is laughing out of control. Luckily for me, Mandy has this on DVR and I get to watch her face scrunch tight in laughter for the second night in a row. Check your local listings!

Swimming and Walking

Well, summer is here along with the crazy desert heat. Only 3 more months of this heat to go. Needless to say, we keep our fans on, and our A/C going like crazy. I see people give me looks of sympathy because I'm starting to show (I still think I just look fat, and not pregnant). Yes, I know, Jason and I sure plan these pregnancies well -- 2 summers. I was complaining about how my feet weren't cooling down, and Jason was so quick to remind me that I just went through this 11 months ago. I try not to get too frustrated with the heat and pregnancy. We really are blessed to have a new little one join us. But, until little Jack gets here, we will continue to spend lots of time at the swimming pools. We can't wait to go up to Midway for the 4th.

Other than that, Kimball is keeping us on our toes and getting into everything. She's even trying to walk by herself. We finally did have to buy a baby gate for our stairs, after we found her 1/2 way up them. Famous last words, "I was only turned a way for a second." Hopefully by 4th of July she'll be a little more steady on her feet so she can show of her walking skills. Here's some pics and videos.

She loves this pool. It has a zero depth entry so she can crawl right in. She actually will keep crawling until her face is under water and her butt floats up. She has NO fear.

She loves to splash and scream. The pool is one of her happy places.

But when she's done, she's done. She'll curl up like a cat and put her head down and just rest.

This does work, just push the play button. Okay, one more. She had already taken 2 steps by the time I got the camera ready. She loves the camera so getting her to balance and actually walk after she sees it, is almost impossible.

WELCOME Nathan Owen Johnson!

I got a phone call from my sister Cally, who lives in SLC, on Thurs. saying she was on her way to the hospital because she was dilated at a 3 and 90% effaced. I was a little worried because she was only 34/35 weeks pregnant at that point. So, I offered to come up (Jason doesn't have to work on fridays, so it was possible) and she said sure. So we packed up within and hour, proving that we can still be young and spontaneous with a kid, and headed up to St.George that night, to be up in SLC the next day. Cally had to spend the night in the hospital on some anti-contraction medication, and steroids for her baby's lungs. She was allowed to leave the hospital on Friday, because there had been no changes. So she and Nate, her husband, came up to my parents house to hang out. By Saturday afternoon she was having contractions again, probably because of a very long walk up Memorial Hill that morning. Well, my mom and I were watching and timing her contractions. My mom finally said you better get down to the hospital (a 45 min drive). So she and Nate headed down, with my parents 20 mins behind them. I got a call about 1 hr later saying she was 5 cent. dilated and probably going to have Owen that night. I asked her if she wanted me to come down on a scale of 1-10, and she said 10, you're my big sis get down here.

I got there about 2 and 1/2 hours before little Owen was born. It was amazing watching my little sister labor without any medication and deliver this perfect (but tiny - 5 lbs 5 oz. 18 in.) little boy. I was flattered to be there to see it. Cally... you are a CHAMP! Welcome to the world OWEN! Cally and Nate had joked about him being born on saturday because his birthday would be 6/7/8, pretty clever. And Cally, being the person that she is, made sure it happened. He was born at 11:55pm. Just in time for an easy birthday to remember. Now Jason wants our son to be born on 10/9/8. I doubt it, but we'll see. CONGRATS CALLY and NATE! Enjoy Owen. Jack is just 5 mos behind him.

Sorry I don't have better pics. Cally and Nate had some good ones on their camera, so until Cally buckles under peer pressure and starts a blog, these will have to do.

It's a BOY!!

Over Memorial weekend, we went to an ultra-sound studio to find out the sex of our new baby. Yes, it's a boy! We're both very excited, especially now that we've settled on a name. Anyone that has known us for a while knows that I love the name Jack. It was my grandpa's name and just generally a favorite of mine. Jason, on the other hand, has never liked this name EVER. This name has been an ongoing conversation since we got married. I have been trying to convince Jason for the last 5 years that he can get over his issue with this name. I haven't always played fair in trying to convince him. I would always tell anyone who asked, and who didn't ask, about how much I love this name, and that Jason won't ever let me use that name. Anyways, once we found out we were having a boy, the discussion became very real. Finally, I gave in. After all, like my mom said, Jason doesn't get stubborn on too many things (it's true, he really doesn't) and so if there is anything he could be stubborn about, it's the name of his first born son. I agreed, and gave up on Jack... even to the point that we were calling this baby "Not-Jack." As the story continues, the other night I was asking Jason about potential names because I need to know before the kid gets here. And, he put his head down and said, "I have something to tell you. I had a revelation." He then tells me about how a woman from his job that had just had a baby came to visit his work and show off her new son. He said as soon as he saw this baby boy, he just thought "Jack, dangit" (maybe a little more explicit then dangit). So, our new addition is now officially Jack Herschel Hafen. Herschel is his dad's and grandpa's name. And, I can say for the record, that I didn't force my husband into using this name.

I can't post without adding latest pictures, so here's some from Disneyland and Memorial Day.
Our first family picture at Disneyland

Grateful for Nana's wheelchair - it was the best ride being pushed around. Notice how comfortable Kimball is. We call it Cadillac-in'.

This is one of my favorites in Bugs Land because Heimlich speaks Spanish with a German accent. So fun to go on a ride with Sam, David, Ashton, and Abbey. There weren't many for me to go on w/ everyone being prego.

Kimball laughing hysterically at a pit stop on the way up to Midway for Memorial Day. There's nothing more fun than your baby's laugh.

This is just a random sampling, I'll have to do a Part II of this week. It was very eventful and we had a lot of fun with everyone.
